L'Orishas
Our idea started from the desire to exploit the myths and legends associated with the medieval universe. While studying the history of the castle of the Dukes of Brittany, we were inevitably interested in the more global history of the city of Nantes, which led us to the triangular trade, and the desire to link these two parts of the great history was born. Resonating from a distant past, the songs of hope that the slaves told each other inspired us to create a narrative. A slave ship would have run aground against the castle of the dukes, the colonists would have charged the slaves to rebuild this one, while they are busy repairing the sail of the mast, a voice rises telling the famous legend of the Orischas, mystical creature of the nature, symbol of freedom for the slaves, and hope of a new era. During the day the spectators can discover the decor of the wreck of the boat, the half-human-half-abstract silhouettes in plaster rolled up in barbed wire and climb on the prow of the ship, all this lulled by the whisper of the legend and at night, coming to life projections on the wall of the castle come to reveal the lost imagination of the slaves.
